Beginning Bridge for new players or novices:

These classes are geared for the newcomer who is interested in learning the basics of bidding and playing the cards.  Whether the student strives to learn a social, party bridge style or competitive duplicate, this class will be the foundation for such. It is highly recommended that the student take all eight consecutive classes as each session explores the next step in the fundamentals of the game. The classes are $20.00 a session and that includes lecture, playing of the cards, glossary of terms and a hand out.

Classes are approximately two hours plus.

These classes are for the player that has successfully completed the beginning course or has had some bridge experience. It is also for the player that has been away from bridge for awhile and would like to brush up on their skills. Lectures will cover bidding, play of the hand, leads, overcalls, weak two bids, simple conventions, strong openings, no trump and part score/game contracts. The classes are $20.00 a session and the sessions will be taught in an eight week span.  Each class is approximately two hours plus in length and includes a lecture, play of the boards that incorporate the lecture, a handout of what was discusses and a glossary of terms.

The intermediate classes will be a fine tuning of offense and defensive bidding and play, bidding for slam, unusual no trump, doubles, Jacoby two no trump, Michael cue bid, more advanced conventions and in general a strategic way to play and bid each hand.

Other Activities at the PBS:

Tuesdays & Fridays supervised open play:

We feel important that students (regardless of your level) have an opportunity to practice what they have learned in the lectures, so Pacific Bridge School offers an open supervised play every Tuesday and Friday from 1:00 to 4:00. No partner is required and you may come and play for as long or as little as you like.  It is not a prerequisite to be enrolled in any of the classes to come and practice. This is a service that is offer to anyone who would like to come and sharpen their skills under supervision. Students are encouraged to bring their notes, ask questions and discuss hands with the other players.

The fee is only $10.00 a person per session.

Zero Master Point Night:

Twice a month (please check the online calendars) from 6:00 to 9:00 we offer a Zero Masterpoint Night.  There is no lecture,  just an evening of playing in a duplicate game setting with time restraint and scoring using "travelers".  Instructors are available through out the evening for minimal advice on bidding and play of the hand, as we want to simulate as much as possible a competitive Club environment.

Yummy snacks are served and it's a friendly, but still  competitive atmosphere for a challenging evening of bridge.  It is helpful if you have a partner to play with, but if not we will find you one or play with you if need be.

The cost is $10.00 a person.

BBQ Bridge Day:

Once a month (usually the fourth Saturday of the month) we will be offering a day long workshop. The lecture each month will focus on successful “Play of the Hand”. This is usually a most challenging aspect of the game for most players. Alain will lecture at 11:00 with a number of hands and will describe how to successfully play them offensively and defensively.

We will then break for a yummy BBQ lunch of hamburgers and hot-dogs and then continue the afternoon with general play.  No partner is necessary but if you play with someone regularly it’s a good idea to come as a team.

Fee is $25.00 a person and the event is subject to weather since the BBQ will be out on the patio.

See the Calendar section for exact dates and please confirm if you wish to attend (and if you need a partner) so we can get enough chow for everyone.
